Child Health Development Clinic
Child health surveillance checks are arranged for all children registered with this practice and are performed by Dr Whyte and our local health visitors. These take place at the age of eight weeks.
Clinical Psychology
A principal clinical psychologist holds a clinic within the medical centre every Thursday.Patients are referred to the clinical psychologist after consultation with the doctor.
Counselling
All doctors offer counselling appointments where patients may benefit from more than the routine 10 minute appointment. The decision is made by the doctor as to which patients should be allocated a longer consultation. A locality counsellor holds a clinic every Wednesday morning. The counsellor can help with depression, relationship problems, anxieties, stress, bereavement, coping with life crises, self-confidence and self-image. Referrals are made as necessary by the GP. However, anything talked about in a session is completely confidential unless otherwise agreed with the counsellor.
Emergency Contraception
Nurse-led emergency contraception appointments are available daily.
Family Planning
The practice is pleased to give advice on family planning including the insertion of coils and the contraceptive implant. We operate a computerised recall system for cervical smear tests. Cervical smears should be carried out every three years for women aged 20 to 60.
Immunisations
The health visitor carries out childhood immunisations. Other immunisations can be carried out during normal consulting.
Maternity Care
We offer shared maternity medical care in conjunction with a consultant obstetrician at Stirling Maternity Unit. In addition, our local district midwives visit before and after the birth of the baby. All antenatal appointments in the practice are held during normal consulting sessions. The midwives hold an antenatal clinic on Friday lunch time
Minor surgery
Minor surgical procedures may be carried out at the surgery. Please see your own doctor for details.
Mother and Baby Group
We provide a group based programme to mothers and antenatal women to promote emotional well-being through support and health promotion.
Mental Health
We also have close links with one local psychiatrist who holds clinics weekly at the medical centre. Referrals are made as necessary by your doctor.
Non-NHS Examinations
Please note that you may be charged a fee for certain non-NHS examinations - ie some insurance forms, special medicals for driving licences, etc, in accordance with BMA recommendations. Please check at reception if in any doubt.
Physiotherapy
We have a Chartered State Registered Physiotherapist, James Hardie, who provides four clinical sessions per week here at APMC.
Patients can self refer or be referred by their GP.
During term time there is a possibility of a six week waiting list developing, however if appointments are deemed urgent your GP they can fast track you to this service.

Sports Medicine
As many of our patients are actively involved in sports, Dr Jane Dunbar, a recognised expert in Sports Medicine, holds a clinic every Wednesday afternoon in the medical centre. Patients are referred to this service by the doctor or physiotherapist.
Smoking And Weight Management
Medical evidence unreputedly confirms that stopping smoking and managing your weight is good for your health. If you are a current smoker and would like to stop, our trained smoking cessation counsellors within the medical centre are here to assist you in meeting your goal. Also it is well recognised that if your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 30 any weight reduction is beneficial. If you would like to lose weight you can make an appointment for an initial health check. Further advice can include creation of a healthy living plan and/or exercise by prescription.
