Airthrey Park Medical Centre offer a confidential service to all their clients.

Sexual Health

Two daily sexual health surgeries are held with appointments with male and female Doctors. Appointments can be booked direct or by referral following initial consultation with Doctor/Nurse. These surgeries deal with any aspect of sexual health, including screening for sexually transmitted infection.

HIV Advice and Counselling

We would like to take this opportunity to remind all our patients of the dangers of acquiring the HIV infections in particular from casual sexual intercourse. The use of condoms do provide some protection.

Condoms

Condoms are available free at the Medical Centre.

Emergency Contraception

Nurse led emergency contraception appointments are available daily. Where possible patients should book an appointment but can also drop in at these times reporting to reception desk on arrival.

Counselling

All doctors offer counselling appointments where patients may benefit from more than the routine 10 minute appointment. The decision is made by the Doctor as to which patients should be allocated a longer consultation. Douglas McFadzean, Locality Counsellor holds a clinic every Wednesday morning. The Counsellor can help with depression, relationship problems, anxieties, stress, bereavement, coping with life crises, self confidence and self image. Referrals are made as necessary by the GP. However anything talked about in a session is completely confidential unless otherwise agreed with the Counsellor.

Clinical Psychology

Nick Bell, Principal Clinical Psychologist holds a clinic within the Medical Centre every Thursday. Patients are referred to the Clinical Psychologist after consultation with the Doctor.

Mental Health

We also have close links with psychiatrists who hold clinics weekly at the Medical Centre. Referrals are made as necessary by your Doctor.

Sports Medicine

As many of our patients are actively involved in sports, Dr Jane Dunbar a recognised expert in Sports Medicine holds a clinic every Wednesday afternoon in the Medical Centre. Patients are referred to this service by the Doctor or Physiotherapist.

Physiotherapy

Our Sports Medicine Service will work in close liaison with our existing extensive physiotherapy service. Senior Grade Physiotherapist, Louise Duncan holds eight clinics throughout the week. Referrals are made as necessary by your Doctor. A daily soft tissue injury service for all patients of GPs within the Stirling Area is also based at the Medical Centre. Referrals are made by the patients GP.

Health Promotion

Judith Morgan, an experienced Health Promotion Officer works within the Practice on a sessional basis co-ordinating and advising on all aspects of Health Promotion.

Health Visiting

Tracy Taylor and Helen Mason our Health Visitors provide families and individuals at home and on campus with a full range of advice on most health related issues e.g. stress and relaxation, child care, contraception, smoking cessation, drug abuse, diet, exercise.

Dietetic

Jean Aitken, Community Dietitian holds clinics twice monthly during semester time to give advice to people with severe dietary problems. Referrals are made following consultation with a Doctor

Smoking and Weight Management

Medical evidence unreputedly confirms that stopping smoking and managing your weight is good for your health. If you are a current smoker and would like to stop, our trained smoking cessation counselors within the Medical Centre are here to assist you meet your goal. Also it is well recognised that if your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 30 any weight reduction is beneficial. If you would like to lose weight you can make an appointment for an initial health check. Further advice can include creation of a healthy living plan and/or exercise by prescription.

Acupuncture

Good health is not just the absence of pain or disease. Traditional acupuncture works to maintain the body's equilibuim by focusing on all aspects of wellbeing, physical, mental and emotional.
